Kate has been working in the aged care industry for 15 years and is highly passionate about improving the lives of older people. Kate has a demonstrated ability and experience in managing projects, prioritising clinical needs, assessing and addressing gaps and training needs along with implementation of quality strategic plans to provide optimal outcomes for residents and staff. Innovates with strong presentation and training skills, while being adaptive and flexible in responding to clinical needs. Key clinical specialty areas include active healthy ageing, dementia and person centred care, palliative and end of life care as well as healthy skin promotion and wound management, all underpinned by evidence based practice, mentoring and development of staff. Kate has completed postgraduate studies at Honours and Masters levels in behavioural and psychological symptoms of dementia (BPSD) and aged and palliative care respectively, and has co-authored journal articles related to missed care and IAD and pressure injury assessment. In her role at Southern Cross Care (SA, NT and Vic) Kate established and oversees their Wound Champions which has directly impacted on reducing the number of wounds across their 17 residential aged care sites including significant reduction of pressure injuries, increased healing rates and also greater prevention of wounds.
