Alison Vallejo is a Registered Nurse employed by Blue Care community nursing on the Sunshine Coast. Alison is the Clinical Nurse in charge of the Wound Clinic. This specialty wound clinic provides nurse-led multi-disciplinary care for community-dwelling Blue Care clients who have chronic wounds. The Wound Solutions Clinic was a collaborative project with the University of the Sunshine Coast and Blue Care, located at the USC Health Clinics in Sippy Downs. Consequently, as well as providing evidence-based client care Alison provides education to undergraduate nursing and dietetic students, community nurses and other health professionals responsible for wound care.
Alison has 20 years’ experience in community nursing and developed an unwavering passion for wound care early in her career. The last eight years she has dedicated to wound specific care, focusing on chronic wounds, such as lower leg ulcers.
Alison has a post graduate diploma in wound management and has undertaken a clinical trial as part of the Doctor of Philosophy program she is currently completing at the University of the Sunshine Coast. Alison’s research involves chronic infection and wound biofilms, searching for novel therapies to assist wound healing. This work has been presented at academic and practice-focused conferences and Alison has published her work in peer reviewed publications.
